Comparison: Dyson TP01 vs TP02 – What are the Differences?

Coverage Area & Efficiency

With a coverage area of up to 28 m² (300 ft²), the TP01 is designed for slightly smaller rooms than its successor, which is able to deal with a surface area of up to 37 m² (400 ft²).

Dyson’s Air Multiplier technology combined with up to 70 degrees oscillation allows both devices to project and circulate purified air evenly across the room.

Clean Air Delivery Rate

Capturing up to 99.97% of allergens and pollutants as small as 0.3 μm with a pre-filter and HEPA filter, the TP01 and TP02 are certified for being asthma and allergy-friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.

Next, a layer of activated carbon allows them to remove odors and gases. Finally, purified air is distributed throughout the room at a rate of up to 435 liters (114.7 gallons, TP01) per second, resulting in a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) of 70 m³/h.

Working Noise

Running at full speed, you will hardly notice a difference between the TP01 and TP02. There is a quite significant disparity at the lowest setting, however, with the TP01 somehow causing just 32 decibels (dB) of noise compared to 45 dB for the TP02.

In total, both devices come with ten different speed levels. The TP02 also supports automatic mode, in which it will run only as fast and therefore as loud as is necessary to maintain healthy air quality inside of the room.

Winner: TP01

32 – 64 dB

45 – 63 dB

Sensors & Display

As the first smart air purifier of the TP series, the TP02 is equipped with intelligent sensors that allow it to track the level of pollutants in the surrounding air in real-time and use this data as input for the automatic mode (see above).

The same information can also be viewed through the Dyson Link app (see below). With the TP01, on the other hand, there is no way for you to view the current pollution levels. Both devices come with an LED screen that shows the current fan speed.

Connectivity & Compatibility

Unlike its successor, the TP01 can not be connected to your smartphone via Wi-Fi. Instead, you will have to rely on the remote to turn the device on and off, change oscillation, speed levels, or set a sleep timer.

The updated remote of the TP02 also allows you to activate the auto and sleep modes. In addition, the purifier can be monitored and controlled remotely using the Dyson Link app. It also supports voice control through Amazon Alexa.

Conclusion: Dyson TP01 vs TP02 – Which is the Better Air Purifier?

If you are looking for an entry-level Dyson air purifier and don’t mind the missing smart features, the Dyson Pure Cool TP01 is worth a closer look. With its significantly lower noise level and limited coverage area, it is a great choice for a bedroom or home office.

The more advanced air purifier of the two, however, is definitely the Dyson Pure Cool Link TP02. It can be monitored and controlled remotely, but at the same time is also able to sense changes in the air quality and make adjustments automatically – all without you lifting a finger.
