Dyson TP01 vs TP4A

In this Dyson TP01 vs TP4A review, we will compare two popular air purifiers from the Singapore-based brand of household appliances.

Both can be used to purify and cool the air at the same time. Both are certified asthma and allergy friendly. So should you go with the entry-level Dyson Pure Cool TP01, or is the more recently released Dyson Purifier Cool TP4A the better choice?

This side-by-side comparison will help you find out.

Comparison: Dyson TP01 vs TP4A – What are the Differences?

Coverage Area

Dyson recommends both the TP01 and the TP4A for rooms with a surface area of up to 27 m² (290 ft²). While they could be used in even larger rooms, the amount of air changes per hour (ACH) would decrease accordingly.

The TP01 and TP4A combine Dyson’s Air Multiplier technology with oscillation to project purified air evenly across the room. You can choose between 45, 90, 180, and 350 degrees oscillation with the TP4A, compared to a maximum of 70 degrees with the TP01.

Clean Air Delivery Rate

Capturing up to 99.97% of allergens and pollutants as small as 0.3 μm with a pre-filter and HEPA filter, the TP01 and TP4A are certified for being asthma and allergy-friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.

With a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) of 164 m³/h for particles such as PM 2.5, the TP4A does have a significant advantage over the 70 m³/h of the TP01. The newer model also comes with a layer of activated carbon, allowing it to remove formaldehyde as well.

Working Noise

Running at full speed, the TP4A operates at a maximum noise level of just below 60 decibels (dB). On the lower end of the spectrum, however, it is the TP01 that generates less noise while purifying and cooling the surrounding air.

Unlike its competitor, the TP4A supports automatic mode, in which it will only run as fast and therefore as loud as needed. Once it detects that pollution levels are decreasing, it will decrease the fan speed accordingly.

Sensors & Display

Intelligent sensors provide the TP4A with the current temperature, humidity, and pollution levels inside the room. Changes are detected almost in real-time and can be used as input for the automatic mode (see above).

The current Air Quality Index (AQI) and details about PM 2.5, PM 10, VOCs, NO2, SO2, temperature, humidity, and filter life can be viewed on a built-in LCD screen. As the TP01 is not equipped with these sensors, it does not offer any way to view the current pollution levels.

Connectivity & Compatibility

Neither the TP01 nor the TP4A can be connected to your smartphone via Wi-Fi. Therefore, you will have to rely on the remote to turn the device on and off, change oscillation, speed levels, or set a sleep timer.

The updated remote of the TP4A also allows you to activate the auto and sleep modes. If you want to be able to monitor and control your Dyson air purifier through your smartphone or voice assistant, consider the TP04.

Conclusion: Dyson TP01 vs TP4A – Which is the Better Air Purifier?

If you are looking to buy your first Dyson purifier and don’t mind missing some of the features of newer devices, the Dyson Pure Cool TP01 might be worth a closer look. Operating at a low noise level, it is especially suitable as a purifier and fan for small bedrooms.

That said, the more advanced model of the two is undoubtedly the Dyson Pure Cool TP4A. In addition to the higher CADR for particles, it is also capable of removing formaldehyde. We also like the real-time tracking of pollutants, as well as the TP4A’s automatic mode.
