Comparison: Dyson TP02 vs TP04 – What are the Differences?

Coverage Area & Efficiency

Dyson recommends the TP02 for rooms with a surface area of up to 37 m² (400 ft²). The TP04 is suitable for rooms with a size of up to 55 m² (600 ft²). While both purifiers could be used in even bigger rooms, the Air Changes Per Hour (ACH) would decrease accordingly.

The TP02 and TP04 combine Dyson’s Air Multiplier technology with oscillation to project purified air evenly across the room. With the TP02, you are limited to 70 degrees oscillation. With the TP04, you can choose between 45, 90, 180, and 350 degrees.

Clean Air Delivery Rate

Removing up to 99.97% of pollutants and allergens including pollen, dust, and pet dander as small as 0.3 μm, both devices are certified for being asthma and allergy-friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.

Thanks to a layer of advanced carbon, they are also effective at capturing odors and gases. The TP02 does all this at a rate of 70 m³/h. The TP04, on the other hand, has a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) of 90 m³/h.

Working Noise

Running at full speed, you won’t hear a difference between the two air purifiers. In sleep mode, however, the TP04 is undoubtedly the more quiet device with a noise level of just 32 decibels (dB) compared to around 45 dB for the TP02.

In total, there are ten different speed levels. The TP02 and TP04 can both be set to automatic mode, in which they will only run as fast and therefore as loud as necessary. Once air quality is back to healthy, they will decrease the fan speed accordingly.

32 – 63 dB

Sensors & Display

Intelligent sensors provide the TP02 and TP04 with the current temperature, humidity, and pollution levels inside the room. Changes are detected almost in real-time and can be used as input for the automatic mode (see above).

With the TP04, the Air Quality Index (AQI) and details about PM 2.5, PM 10, VOCs, NO2, SO2, temperature, humidity, and filter life can be viewed on an LCD screen, as well as on your smartphone (see below). The TP02 only displays the current fan speed on an LED screen.

Connectivity & Compatibility

Aside from changing settings on the device itself, there are three ways to interact with the TP02 and TP04. First, there is the remote which allows you to turn the purifier on and off, change oscillation, speed levels, set a timer, and activate auto or night mode.

You can also monitor and control them remotely from another room or even another part of the world using a Wi-Fi connection, your smartphone, and the Dyson Link app. Lastly, both the TP02 and TP04 support voice control via Amazon Alexa.

Conclusion: Dyson TP02 vs TP04 – Which is the Better Air Purifier?

While it did come in second in most rounds of this comparison, the Dyson Pure Cool Link TP02 is still a great choice if you are looking to buy your first smart air purifier that comes with automatic mode, connectivity capabilities, and all the other perks of modern devices.

That said, if you are looking for the better air purifier overall, the Dyson Pure Cool TP04 does have the upper hand with a higher coverage area, more oscillation angles, and higher CADR. The extremely quiet operation in sleep mode also makes it a great choice for bedrooms.
