In this Dyson TP04 vs TP06 review, we will compare the most popular mid-level device of the TP series with one of its successors.
Like all models of the series, the TP04 and TP06 can be used not only as a purifier, but also as a cooling fan. The colouring aside, they look rather alike. So how do the two variations differ, and which one is the better fit for your needs?
This side-by-side comparison will help you find out.

Comparison: Dyson TP04 vs TP06 – What are the Differences?
Coverage Area & Efficiency
Suitable for up to 34 m² (368 ft²) and 33 m² (350 ft²), respectively, the TP04 and TP06 have an almost similar coverage area. In both instances, the suggestion is based on two air changes per hour (ACH) and a ceiling height of 2.4 m (8 ft).
If you are suffering from allergies or asthma, or expect to encounter elevated pollution levels, and thus require five ACH, the covered area would decrease to 14 m² (147 ft²) for the TP04, and 13 m² (140 ft²) for the TP06.
Winner: TP04
Up to 34 m² (368 ft²)
Up to 33 m² (350 ft²)
Clean Air Delivery Rate
Utilizing Dyson’s 360 Combi Glass HEPA + Carbon air purifier filter, the TP04 and TP06 remove 99.97% of allergens and pollutants as small as 0.3 microns, before neutralizing household odours and gases including VOCs using activated carbon.
With a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) of 164 m³/h compared to 156 m³/h for the TP06, the TP04 is slightly more efficient at removing particles than its competitor. We will add the corresponding number for formaldehyde as soon as the result are in.
Winner: TBD
164 m³/h (Particles), 56 m³/h (Formaldehyde)
156 m³/h (Particles), ? m³/h (Formaldehyde)
Working Noise
The TP04 operates at around 42 decibels (dB) in sleep mode, giving it an advantage over the 46 dB of the TP06. Although the difference shrinks on the upper end, the TP04 also causes slightly less noise when running at full speed.
Both models support auto mode, in which they will automatically adjust their fan speed based on air quality. As soon as pollution levels start to decrease again after a sudden spike, their fan speed and noise level will decrease accordingly.
Winner: TP04
42 – 59 dB(A)
46 – 60 dB(A)
Sensors & Display
To gather the real-time data needed for the auto mode, the TP04 and TP06 use a particulate and a gas sensor to keep track of the amount of pollutants in the air. In addition, they are also fitted with a humidity and temperature sensor.
The current air quality is always visible on an LCD screen. More detailed information, such as 24H AQI, PM 2.5, PM 10, VOCs, NO2, SO2 statistics, are available through the Dyson Link app (see below).

Connectivity & Compatibility
You can monitor and control the TP04 and TP06 remotely using a Wi-Fi connection and the Dyson Link app on your smartphone. If you have your hands full, for example while cooking, you can even interact with them using your voice.
As the two purifiers are compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple Siri, they can be seemingly integrated with your smart home. If you prefer, you can also use the included remote to turn the TP04 and TP06 on and off and make changes to its settings.

Weight & Dimensions
In the final round of this Dyson TP04 vs TP06 comparison, we will have a quick look at the weight and dimensions of the two devices. Technically speaking, the TP04 is both heavier and larger – but side by side, they are almost equal.
Winner: TP06
4.98 kg, 223 x 223 x 1054 mm
4.85 kg, 220 x 220 x 1051 mm
Conclusion: Dyson TP04 vs TP06 – Which is the Better Air Purifier?
While the differences are minimal, the Dyson Pure Cool Purifying Tower Fan TP04 has an edge in terms of coverage area and CADR. It also operates at a slightly lower noise level, making it the better choice for light sleepers.
That said, you might still want to opt for the Dyson Pure Cool Cryptomic TP06 if you are worried about formaldehyde, a gas that can originate from furniture and carpets, paint and varnishes, air fresheners and household cleaners, and various other sources.
