In this Dyson TP04 vs TP4A review, we will compare two popular air purifiers from the Singapore-based brand of household appliances.
From the outside, they are barely differentiable. Both can be used as air purifier and fan at the same time. Both are certified asthma and allergy friendly. So should you go with the newer, yet cheaper Dyson Purifier Cool TP4A, or pick the Dyson Purifier Cool TP04 instead?
This side-by-side comparison will help you find out.

Comparison: Dyson TP04 vs TP4A – What are the Differences?
Coverage Area
Dyson recommends both the TP04 and the TP4A for rooms with a surface area of up to 27 m² (290 ft²). While they could be used in even larger rooms, the amount of air changes per hour (ACH) would decrease accordingly.
The two devices feature Dyson’s Air Multiplier technology, which ensures an uninterrupted stream of purified air. Additionally, they are able to oscillate 45, 90, 180, or 350 degrees, which allows them to circulate clean and cool air evenly across the room.

Clean Air Delivery Rate
Now equipped with a 360° glass HEPA borosilicate filter, the TP04 and TP4A remove up to 99.97% of allergens and pollutants as small as 0.3 μm and are certified for being asthma and allergy-friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.
The also updated carbon filter has three times the amount of activated carbon compared to the previous version, making it even better suited to capture gases. All in all, this results in a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) of 164 m³/h for particles and 56 m³/h for formaldehyde.

Working Noise
Running at full speed, the TP04 and TP4A operate at a noise level of slightly below 60 decibels (dB). On the lowest of the ten speed settings, both devices purify and cool the surrounding air at around 42 dB.
The TP04 and TP4A can also be set to automatic mode, in which they will only run as fast and therefore as loud as needed. Once pollution levels start to return to a healthy level after a spike, their fan speed and noise level will decrease accordingly.

Sensors & Display
Intelligent sensors provide the TP04 and TP4A with the current temperature, humidity, and pollution levels inside the room. Changes are detected almost in real-time and can be used as input for the automatic mode (see above).
The current Air Quality Index (AQI) and details about PM 2.5, PM 10, VOCs, NO2, SO2, temperature, humidity, and filter life can be viewed on a built-in LCD screen. With the TP04, you can also view this information on your smartphone (see below).

Connectivity & Compatibility
Aside from changing settings on the device itself, there are three ways to interact with the TP04. First, there is the remote which allows you to turn the purifier on and off, change oscillation, speed levels, set a timer, and activate auto or night mode.
You can also monitor and control the purifier remotely using a Wi-Fi connection, your smartphone, and the Dyson Link app. Lastly, the TP04 also works with Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri, and Google Home. The TP4A, on the other hand, does not come with Wi-Fi capabilities.

Weight & Dimensions
In the last round of this Dyson TP04 vs TP4A comparison, we will have a quick look at the weight and dimensions of the two devices. Both barely take up more space than a A4 paper and, at a weight of around 5 kg (11 lbs) each, are fairly easy to move around.

Conclusion: Dyson TP04 vs TP4A – Which is the Better Air Purifier?
With the Dyson Pure Cool TP04, you get one of the brand’s popular air purifiers which can be monitored and controlled from your couch, another floor, or even from the office. The new 2-in-1 filter makes its installation and maintenance even easier than before.
However, the same updated filter can be found in the Dyson Pure Cool TP4A. In fact, it is almost identical to the TP04 – with one exception. So if you have no plans to integrate your purifier with your smart home, opt for the TP4A and save some money doing so.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Dyson TP4A?
The Dyson TP4A is an analog and less expensive version of the TP04 air purifier. As it lacks the Wi-Fi capabilities of the TP04, the TP4A can not be connected to a smartphone or voice assistant. Other than that, the two purifying fan towers share the exact same specifications.
