Dyson TP04 vs TP7A

In this Dyson TP04 vs TP7A review, we will compare two popular air purifiers from the Singapore-based brand of household appliances.

Both can be used as air purifier and fan at the same time. Both are certified asthma and allergy friendly. So should you opt for the proven and tested Dyson Pure Cool TP04, or is the recently released Dyson Purifier Cool Autoreact TP7A the better choice?

This side-by-side comparison will help you find out.

Comparison: Dyson TP04 vs TP7A – What are the Differences?

Coverage Area & Efficiency

Dyson recommends the TP04 for rooms with a surface area of up to 27 m² (290 ft²) and the TP7A for up to 43 m² (460 ft²). While both devices could be used in even larger rooms, the amount of air changes per hour (ACH) would decrease accordingly.

The TP04 and TP7A combine Dyson’s Air Multiplier technology with oscillation to project purified air evenly across the room. You can choose between 45, 90, 180, and 350 degrees oscillation and thus have clean and/or cool air distributed evenly across the room.

Winner: TP7A

Up to 27 m²

Up to 43 m²

Clean Air Delivery Rate

Using a pre-filter and a HEPA filter, the TP04 and TP7A capture up to 99.97% of allergens and pollutants as small as 0.3 μm and are certified for being asthma and allergy-friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.

Both models come with a layer of activated carbon, which allows them to remove odours and gases. The TP7A features a higher Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) when it comes to particles, while the TP04 has the advantage when it comes to formaldehyde.

How to use auto mode on your Dyson Pure Cool TP04 tower purifying fan

Working Noise

Running at full speed, the TP7A operates at around 60 decibels (dB) and therefore at a slightly lower level than the TP04. The TP7A does also have the upper hand in sleep mode, where it runs at just 38 dB compared to 42 dB for its competitor.

Both the TP04 and TP7A can be set to automatic mode, in which they will only run as fast and therefore as loud as needed. Once pollution levels in the room decrease, the fan speed and noise level will decrease accordingly without you having to lift a finger.

38 – 60 dB

Sensors & Display

Intelligent sensors provide the TP04 and TP7A with the current temperature, humidity, and pollution levels inside the room. Changes are detected almost in real-time and can be used as input for the automatic mode (see above).

In both models, the current Air Quality Index (AQI) and details about PM 2.5, PM 10, VOCs, NO2, SO2, temperature, humidity, and filter life can be viewed on a built-in LCD screen. The TP04 also allows you to view this information via an app on your smartphone (see below).

Introducing the Dyson Purifier Cool Autoreact TP7A

Connectivity & Compatibility

Aside from changing settings on the device itself, there are three ways to interact with the TP04. First, there is the remote which allows you to turn the purifier on and off, change oscillation, speed levels, set a timer, and activate auto or night mode.

You can also monitor and control it remotely using a Wi-Fi connection, your smartphone, and the Dyson Link app. Lastly, you may also integrate it with your smart home assistant. The TP7A, on the other hand, does not come with any Wi-Fi capabilities.

Conclusion: Dyson TP04 vs TP7A – Which is the Better Air Purifier?

If you don’t have any plans to integrate your air purifier with your smart home, the Dyson Purifier Cool Autoreact TP7A is a great choice. It is suitable for larger rooms, less noisy, equipped with the useful auto mode, and sells at a lower price point at the same time.

If you want to monitor and control your air purifier remotely and integrate it with your smart home, opt for the Dyson Pure Cool TP04 instead. It can still keep up with newer models in terms of CADR and functionality, and is one of the best-selling Dyson air purifiers for a reason.
