Dyson TP7A vs TP09

In this Dyson TP7A vs TP09 review, we will compare two of the latest Dyson air purifiers that can help you clean your indoor air from PM 2.5 and other types of air pollution.

Both devices can be used not only for air purification, but also as a fan. Aside from their color, they also rather look alike. So should you opt for the recently released Dyson Purifier Cool Autoreact TP7A, or invest in the Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde TP09 instead?

This side-by-side comparison will help you find out.

Comparison: Dyson TP7A vs TP09 – What are the Differences?

Coverage Area & Efficiency

Dyson recommends the TP7A for rooms with a surface area of up to 43 m² (460 ft²). The TP09, on the other hand, comes with a coverage area of up to 74 m² (800 ft²) and is thus tied for the most powerful air purifier of the brand.

To project purified air evenly across the room, the TP7A and TP09 combine Dyson’s Air Multiplier technology with oscillation. Depending on where you place the purifier within the room, you can choose between 45, 90, 180, and 350 degrees.

Clean Air Delivery Rate

The TP7A and TP09 use a HEPA filter to capture 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 μm, which includes pollen, bacteria, and pet dander. Along with the TP07, they are the first air purifiers of the TP series to be fully sealed to HEPA H13.

Furthermore, they come with a layer of activated carbon, which helps them remove odours and gases including VOCs. The TP7A features a slightly higher Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) when it comes to particles, while the TP09 has the upper hand in terms of formaldehyde.

Introducing the Dyson Purifier Cool Autoreact TP7A

Working Noise

Running at full speed, both the TP7A and TP09 operate at around 60 decibels (dB). On the lowest of the ten available speed settings, however, the TP09 generates just 32 dB of noise emissions compared to 38 dB for the TP7A.

Both devices support automatic mode, in which they will only run as fast and therefore as loud as needed to maintain healthy air quality. Once pollution levels revert after a sudden spike, they will adjust their fan speed accordingly and thus prevent any unnecessary noise.

Sensors & Display

Intelligent sensors provide the TP7A and TP09 with the current temperature, humidity, and pollution levels inside the room. Changes are detected almost in real-time and can be used as input for the automatic mode (see above).

The current Air Quality Index (AQI) and details about PM 2.5, PM 10, VOCs, NO2, SO2, temperature, humidity, and filter life can be viewed on a built-in LCD screen. With the TP09, you can also view this information on your smartphone (see below).

Connectivity & Compatibility

Aside from changing settings on the device itself, there are three ways to interact with the TP09. First, there is the remote which allows you to turn the purifier on and off, change oscillation, speed levels, set a timer, and activate auto or night mode.

You can also monitor and control the purifier remotely using a Wi-Fi connection, your smartphone, and the Dyson Link app. Lastly, the TP09 can be integrated with Amazon Alexa and Google Home. The TP7A, on the other hand, does not come with any Wi-Fi capabilities.

Conclusion: Dyson TP7A vs TP09 – Which is the Better Air Purifier?

If you don’t have any plans to integrate your air purifier with your smart home, the Dyson Purifier Cool Autoreact TP7A is a great choice. It is powerful enough to compete in terms of CADR, equipped with the useful auto mode, and sells at a lower price point at the same time.

But if you have an especially large room to purify, consider investing in the Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde TP09 instead and enjoy a quieter operation in sleep mode as well as the ability to monitor and control your air purifier from anywhere in the world.
