In this Levoit Core 200S vs PlasmaPro 200S review, we will compare the two entry-level devices of the Core and PlasmaPro series from the fast-growing American brand for small home appliances.
Both were designed with smaller rooms in mind and come with some of the capabilities usually reserved for more expensive air purifiers, such as the ability to integrate them with your smart home. Both look identical on the outside. So how do they differ?
This side-by-side comparison will help you find out. (TL;DR: It’s the PlasmaPro technology.)

Comparison: Levoit Core 200S vs PlasmaPro 200S – What are the Differences?
Coverage Area & Efficiency
At up to 17 m² (183 ft²) compared to 16.5 m² (178 ft²), the Core 200S has a marginally higher coverage area than the PlasmaPro 200S. In both instances, the recommended room size is based on an assumed five air changes per hour (ACH) and a ceiling height of 2.4 m (8 ft).
Therefore, the Core 200S and PlasmaPro 200S could be used in even bigger rooms, with the amount of ACH decreasing accordingly. For example, if you live somewhere with moderate air pollution and are content with two ACH, the coverage area would increase to 41 m² (445 ft²).
Winner: Core 200S
Up to 17 m² (183 ft²)
Up to 16.5 m² (178 ft²)
Clean Air Delivery Rate
In the first step of Levoit’s 3-stage filtration process, a nylon pre-filter takes care of large pollutants including dust, hair, and pet fur. Next, an H13 True HEPA filter captures at least 99.97% of particles and allergens as small as 0.3 µm, for example, pollen and pet dander.
Lastly, smoke, fumes, VOCs, and household odors such as cooking smells and pet odors are neutralized by a layer of activated carbon. In the PlasmaPro model, there is an additional step where positive and negative ions bind with pollutants to break down their molecular structure.
The Core 200S goes through the filtration process at a rate of 200 m³/h (118 CFM), while the PlasmaPro 200S comes with a slightly lower Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) of 195 m³/h (115 CFM).
Winner: Core 200S
200 m³/h (118 CFM)
195 m³/h (115 CFM)
Working Noise
When set to sleep mode, the Core 200S operates at a noise level as low as 24 decibels (dB) as opposed to 27 dB for the PlasmaPro 200S. Running at full speed, the Core series version is once again the less noisy of the two, maxing out at 48 dB compared to 52 dB.
In total, there are three different speed settings available. Unfortunately, neither the Core 200S nor the PlasmaPro 200S support auto mode, and you will have to change the fan speed and thus the amount of noise generated manually.
Winner: Core 200S
24 – 48 dB(A)
27 – 52 dB(A)
Sensors & Display
The Core 200S and PlasmaPro 200S are not equipped with any dust sensors that would allow them to scan their surroundings. You could either use a third-party device to track air quality for you, or simply observe at which speed level you start to feel a positive effect.
Consequently, there is no real-time information about the level of PM 2.5 and other pollutants visible on the display. However, it can be used to turn the purifier on and off, change the fan speed, activate night mode, set a timer, and more.

Connectivity & Compatibility
You can use a Wi-Fi connection, your smartphone, and the VeSync app to monitor and control both the Core 200S and PlasmaPro 200S remotely. This allows you to turn the purifier on and off, create a schedule, view the remaining filter life, and more.
If you want to be able to interact with your purifier even when your hands are full, you are also in luck. As the Core 200S and PlasmaPro 200S are compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, they can be controlled using only your voice.

Conclusion: Levoit Core 200S vs PlasmaPro 200S – Which is the Better Air Purifier?
The Levoit Air Purifier PlasmaPro 200S is the Core 200S with added PlasmaPro technology, which helps it break down particles, odorous gases, aerosols, and VOCs as well as airborne viruses and bacteria. That said, some of you might be worried about the ozone emitted.
At just 2.0 parts per billion (ppb), the PlasmaPro 200S comfortably meets the 50 ppb limit set by the California Air Resources Board. But if you are still sceptical, by all means opt for the otherwise identical Levoit Air Purifier Core 200S instead and save some money doing so.
