In this Levoit PlasmaPro 300S vs 400S review, we will compare the entry and mid-level device of the PlasmaPro series from the fast-growing American brand for small home appliances.
Both have a rather similar design, drawing in air from 360 degrees and then releasing purified air through the top. Both have all the capabilities you would expect of a modern air purifier, such as the ability to integrate them with your smart home. So which one should you pick?
This side-by-side comparison will help you find out.

Comparison: Levoit PlasmaPro 300S vs 400S – What are the Differences?
Coverage Area & Efficiency
With an effective range of up to 20 m² (219 ft²), the PlasmaPro 300S is ideal for bedrooms, home offices, and other relatively small rooms. The more powerful PlasmaPro 400S, on the other hand, is able to deal with surface areas of up to 37 m² (403 ft²).
In both instances, the recommended room sized is based on an assumed five air changes per hour (ACH) in a room with a ceiling height of 2.4 m (8 ft). Therefore, the two purifiers could be used in even bigger rooms, with the amount of ACH decreasing accordingly.
Winner: PlasmaPro 400S
Up to 20 m² (219 ft²)
Up to 37 m² (403 ft²)
Clean Air Delivery Rate
The filtration process of the PlasmaPro series kicks off with a pre-filter that takes care of large pollutants including dust, hair, and pet fur. Next, an H13 True HEPA filter captures at least 99.97% of particles and allergens as small as 0.3 µm, for example, pollen and pet dander.
In step three, smoke, fumes, VOCs, and household odors such as cooking smells and pet odors are neutralized by a layer of activated carbon. Lastly, positive and negative ions are released to bind with pollutants and break down their molecular structure.
The PlasmaPro 300S does all this at a rate of 240 m³/h (141 CFM), while the PlasmaPro 400S comes with a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) of 442 m³/h (260 CFM).
Winner: PlasmaPro 400S
240 m³/h (141 CFM)
442 m³/h (260 CFM)
Working Noise
When set to sleep mode, the PlasmaPro 300S operates at a noise level as low as 22 decibels (dB) compared to 24 dB for its successor. Running at full speed, it maxes out at 50 dB, once again giving it a small advantage over the PlasmaPro 400S with its upper limit of 52 dB.
Both models can be switched to auto mode, in which they will automatically adjust their fan speed based on air quality. As soon as the amount of pollutants starts to come back down again after a sudden spike, their fan speed and noise level will decrease accordingly.
Winner: PlasmaPro 300S
22 – 50 dB(A)
24 – 52 dB(A)
Sensors & Display
To generate the real-time data needed for the auto mode, both the PlasmaPro 300S and 400S are equipped with Levoit’s AirSight Plus technology. Using a high-sensitivity laser dust sensor, they are able to continuously scan the surrounding air for pollutants.
An indicator ring located on top of the two devices reveals the current air quality at a quick glance, with blue signifying very good and red being unhealthy. The level of PM 2.5 is also visible on the display. All the information is available via the VeSync app, as well (see below).

Connectivity & Compatibility
You can use a Wi-Fi connection, your smartphone, and the VeSync app to monitor and control both the PlasmaPro 300S and 400S remotely. This allows you to turn the purifier on and off, change the speed, create a schedule, view the remaining filter life, and more.
In addition, it is also possible to interact with the models from the PlasmaPro series using only your voice. Thanks to their compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, they can be seemingly integrated with your smart home.

Conclusion: Levoit PlasmaPro 300S vs 400S – Which is the Better Air Purifier?
While it may not be able to keep up with its successor in terms of performance metrics, the Levoit Air Purifier PlasmaPro 300S comes with the same sensors and connectivity features. Provided that your room size allows it, save yourself some money and pick the smaller version.
If you need the additional power due to severe air pollution or simply have a larger room to purify, opt for the Levoit Air Purifier PlasmaPro 400S instead. It has a significantly higher coverage area and CADR, but at the same time is only minimally louder than the 300S.
