Levoit Vital 200S vs Core 400S

In this Levoit Vital 200S vs Core 400S review, we will compare the most powerful model of the Vital series with one of the mid-level models of the Core series.

Originally designed to specifically fulfil the purifying needs of pet owners, the recently released Vital 200S quickly became popular among other users. Meanwhile, the Core 400S was fitted with all of Levoit’s latest in-house technologies. So which one is the better fit?

This side-by-side comparison will help you find out.

Comparison: Levoit Vital 200S vs Core 400S – What are the Differences?

Coverage Area & Efficiency

Levoit recommends the Vital 200S for medium-sized rooms with a surface area of up to 35 m² (380 ft²). The Core 400S, on the other hand, comes with a slightly higher effective range and can deal with up to 37 m² (403 ft²).

In both instances, these recommendations are based on an assumed five air changes per hour (ACH) in a room with a ceiling height of 2.4 m (8 ft). Therefore, the Vital 200S and Core 400S could be used in even bigger rooms, with the amount of ACH decreasing accordingly.

Clean Air Delivery Rate

In the first of three filtration steps, a pre-filter takes care of large pollutants including dust, hair, and pet fur (the Vital 200S one is even washable). Next, an H13 True HEPA filter captures at least 99.97% of particles and allergens as small as 0.3 µm, for example, pollen and pet dander.

Levoit’s HEPASmart technology even allows the Core 400S to remove 99.99% of bacteria and 99.9% of viruses. In the final step, both models use a layer of activated carbon to neutralize smoke, fumes, VOCs, and household odors such as cooking smells and pet odors.

The Vital 200S does all that work at an already high rate of 416 m³/h (245 CFM). However, this is still only good enough for second place in this category, with the Core 400S featuring an even higher Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) of 442 m³/h (260 CFM).

Working Noise

The Vital 200S and Core 400S are barely noticeable in sleep mode, in which they operate at a noise level as low as 24 decibels (dB). Running at full speed, the model from the Core series has a minimal advantage at 52 dB compared to 54 dB for its competitor.

Both can be set to auto mode, in which they will automatically adjust their fan speed based on the detected air quality. As soon as pollution levels start to drop again after a sudden spike, their fan speed and noise level will decrease accordingly.

Sensors & Display

While the Vital 200S relies on an infrared dust sensor, the Core 400S is equipped with a high-sensitivity laser dust sensor that can detect changes in the air quality up to ten times faster. The gathered real-time updates are used as input for the automatic mode (see above).

Indicator rings found on both displays indicate the current air quality at a quick glance, with blue signifying very good and red being unhealthy. More detailed information, especially in case of the Core 400S, is available via the VeSync app (see below).

Connectivity & Compatibility

You can use a Wi-Fi connection, your smartphone, and the VeSync app to monitor and control the Vital 200S and Core 400S remotely. This allows you to turn the purifier on and off, create a schedule, view the remaining filter life, and more.

An even more convenient way to interact with both of the air purifiers is by using voice control. Thanks to their compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, the Vital 200S and Core 400S can be seemingly integrated with your smart home.

Conclusion: Levoit Vital 200S vs Core 400S – Which is the Better Air Purifier?

While it might have slightly lower performance metrics than its competitor, the Levoit Air Purifier Vital 200S is by all means powerful enough for most use cases. Especially if you are a dog or cat owner, you might want to take a closer look at the usually slightly cheaper model.

The better device overall is, however, the Levoit Air Purifier Core 400S. In addition to the higher coverage area and CADR, it comes with both upgraded filters and a more advanced sensor that allows it to better detect pollutants such as PM 2.5.
